The XP Patch Nightmare: Why We Should Move On
![]()
October 25, 2001 – Microsoft operating system was released during the Internet revolution came in the house of the everyman. Only one year after the absolute fiasco known as the Windows ME (in a time before Vista was known for probably the worst OS of all time), Windows XP was released, and with it came the hope of a new stable Windows OS. Combining new technologies with MOI stability of Windows 2000, XP OS has become the world number one, and sits on the throne today. He said the modern Internet, and was until recently the OS of choice for OEMs.
Now we can finally see what a horrible mistake and now the horrible living. Since the appearance of an old DOS feat of 17 years, followed by an update that has created countless BSODs and reset endlessly, Windows Xp seem unlikely to survive the coming years. Microsoft believes they have discovered the primary cause of common diseases:
“In our continuing investigation in to the restart issues related to MS10-015 that a limited number of customers are experiencing, we have determined that malware on the system can cause the behavior. We are not yet ruling out other potential causes at this time and are still investigating.” (emphasis added)
People have attacked Windows Vista for straws and evaluation of performance, but at least Microsoft has begun to clean up his act for the security of the Internet with Internet Explorer 7 and the wall with fireproof improved Windows. The Account Control user Unix systems with a device took a long time, was a step in the right direction (despite its formidable performance). And Windows 7 finally comes with performance improvements and the most modern equipment is capable of handling. The only market that really had any justification in the use of XP was of netbooks, but even they have gone to the starter edition of Windows 7.
While XP may have extended support until 2014, users should realize that they must give way before that. There are three main routes. If you have anything with a higher performance than a netbook, it is safe to switch to Windows 7. PCs that “Vista-capable” should not even have Windows XP on them. It is an insult to their material, and these recent events have proved that it is safer. If for some reason you always use the 800 MHz Celeron with 128 MB RAM, then it is time to get a new computer (something with any brand of operating system circa 2010) or install Linux. For most users, it seems like too difficult of an option, but Ubuntu is an introduction to use and easy to use Linux.
As for the netbooks, which is the only platform where new machines were always this abomination, please get Windows 7 or Linux or even a Hackintosh. Microsoft has directions for those of you who do not install a ISO to install a USB. And while I’m sure there will be many people hesitant to move from XP, I am asking you: at least take this as a wake up call.
